Halliburton announced on the 17th that it had secured a contract for GeoFrame Energy's geothermal and direct lithium extraction (DLE) project in Texas, and would be responsible for the design and planning of the first-phase demonstration well in the Smackover Formation in East Texas. The project is expected to produce 83,500 mt of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually, which is expected to significantly reduce reliance on lithium imports from China. GeoFrame stated that it would utilize geothermal brine to generate electricity, driving lithium extraction equipment in a zero-emission manner, with the surplus electricity integrated into the power grid. The project is planned to commence at the end of 2025.
