Overview of National Building Materials Inventory on June 26

On June 26, the total rebar inventory for the week was 5.1666 million mt, a decrease of 18,700 mt WoW, or -0.36% WoW, and a YoY decline of 29.59% based on the lunar calendar. The total wire rod inventory was 1.0759 million mt, an increase of 15,200 mt WoW, or +1.44% WoW, and a YoY decline of 41.45% based on the lunar calendar.

This week, the total rebar inventory stood at 5.1666 million mt, a decrease of 18,700 mt WoW, down 0.36% MoM, and down 29.59% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

This week, the social inventory of rebar was 3.2858 million mt, a decrease of 54,100 mt WoW, down 1.62% MoM, and down 38.31% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

This week, the in-plant inventory of rebar was 1.8808 million mt, an increase of 35,400 mt WoW, up 1.92% MoM, and down 6.49% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

 

This week, the total wire rod inventory was 1.0759 million mt, an increase of 15,200 mt WoW, up 1.44% MoM, and down 41.45% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

This week, the social inventory of wire rod was 526,800 mt, a decrease of 9,700 mt WoW, down 1.81% MoM, and down 37.70% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

This week, the in-plant inventory of wire rod was 549,100 mt, an increase of 24,900 mt WoW, up 4.76% MoM, and down 44.64% YoY on the lunar calendar basis.

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
