SEMI: Semiconductor capacity will exceed 10 million wafers by 2028
On June 26, SEMI released the findings of its latest 300mm Fab Outlook report, indicating that the global semiconductor manufacturing industry is expected to maintain strong momentum. It is projected that from the end of 2024 to 2028, capacity will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7%, reaching a historic high of 11.1 million wafers per month (wpm). The key driver of this growth is the continuous expansion of advanced process capacity (7nm and below), which is expected to increase by approximately 69%, from 850,000 wpm in 2024 to a historic high of 1.4 million wpm in 2028—a CAGR of about 14%, which is double the industry average.
