On June 12, a situation announcement was made for the Huaneng Taonan Integrated Demonstration Project for Hydrogen Production from Wind and Solar Power and Methanol Synthesis (methanol synthesis part), which had obtained approval for record-filing.
According to the announcement, the Huaneng Taonan Integrated Demonstration Project for Hydrogen Production from Wind and Solar Power and Methanol Synthesis (methanol synthesis part) is located in Taonan City, Baicheng City, Jilin Province. The project entity is the Taonan Branch of Huaneng Jilin New Energy Development Co., Ltd., with a total project investment of 3.4606 billion yuan.
This project is a newly-built one, with a planned total land area of approximately 278,000 m². The overall project plan is to produce 300,000 mt of green methanol annually. The main process route involves producing hydrogen from new energy and synthesizing green methanol with carbon dioxide. The main installations include a water electrolysis hydrogen production unit, a hydrogen storage unit, a methanol synthesis unit, a methanol rectification unit, and related auxiliary facilities within the plant area. Construction is expected to commence in November 2025 and be completed in December 2027.
