






CATL (SHE: 300750) saw its market share in China's electric vehicle (EV) battery market rise compared to the previous month, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw a decline.
In May, China's power battery installation volume reached 57.1 GWh, up 43.1 percent year-on-year and up 5.5 percent month-on-month, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
CATL's battery installations in May reached 24.47 GWh, maintaining its top position with a 42.87 percent market share, up 3.44 percentage points from April's 39.44 percent share.
BYD's battery installations in May totaled 12.84 GWh, accounting for a 22.49 percent market share, ranking second despite a decrease of 3.86 percentage points from April's 26.35 percent share.
CALB's battery installations in May reached 4.30 GWh, accounting for a 7.53 percent market share, up 0.51 percentage points from April's 7.02 percent.
Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in May with 3.00 GWh of battery pack installations and a 5.26 percent market share.
Sunwoda ranked fifth in May with an installation volume of 2.24 GWh and a market share of 3.93 percent.
China's ternary lithium battery installation volume in May was 10.5 GWh, accounting for 18.4 percent of the total installation volume. This represents a year-on-year increase of 1.6 percent and a month-on-month increase of 13.1 percent.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries had an installation volume of 46.5 GWh in May, accounting for 81.6 percent of the total. This represents a year-on-year increase of 57.7 percent and a month-on-month increase of 3.9 percent.
CATL, CALB, and LG Energy Solution were the top three in ternary battery installations in May, with market shares of 73.11 percent, 11.43 percent, and 6.46 percent, respectively.
In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and CALB had the highest installation volumes in May, with market shares of 36.05 percent, 27.58 percent, and 6.66 percent, respectively.
China's production of power batteries and other batteries in May reached 123.5 GWh, representing a year-on-year increase of 47.9 percent and a month-on-month increase of 4.4 percent.
The production of ternary batteries in May was 27.2 GWh, up 21.7 percent year-on-year and up 16.0 percent month-on-month.
The production of LFP batteries in May was 96.1 GWh, up 57.7 percent year-on-year and up 1.6 percent month-on-month.
China exported 13.5 GWh of power batteries in May, including 7.27 GWh of ternary batteries and 6.2 GWh of LFP batteries.
