Jiangxi University of Science and Technology Develops High-Performance Antimony-Based Perovskite Luminescent Materials

Published: Jun 23, 2025 09:06

Against the backdrop of an era driven by both energy conservation, environmental protection, and technological innovation, the R&D of LED headlight materials has become a competitive high ground in the global lighting industry. Recently, the "Brilliant Optical Materials" team from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has successfully developed high-performance antimony-based perovskite luminescent materials, injecting strong momentum into the innovation of headlight technology. This achievement not only resolves long-standing technical challenges in the industry but also opens up new pathways for the development of the green lighting industry.

Although LED headlights are renowned for their energy efficiency, issues such as severe light decay and low visibility in rainy or foggy conditions have consistently hindered the improvement of their performance. Facing these challenges, the team, led by its head Junwen Deng, adopted a problem-oriented approach and achieved two key technological breakthroughs through repeated exploration.

It is understood that the team employed a diethylenetriamine-mediated perovskite preparation technique, utilizing diethylenetriamine to encapsulate metal ions, forming an organic coating on their surface. Leveraging its strong coordination ability, it forms a rigid chelation structure with uncoordinated Sb³⁺, protecting it from erosion by water and oxygen in the air. Traditional LED headlights experience a light decay rate as high as 15% during use, severely affecting their service life and lighting performance. The team innovatively used diethylenetriamine as a mediator to optimize the crystal structure of the perovskite material, reducing the light decay rate to below 5% and significantly enhancing the material's stability. To address the issue of insufficient light penetration in rainy or foggy conditions, the team employed antimony doping technology to increase the material's photoluminescence quantum yield to 99.92%. Test data indicate that the rain and fog penetration distance of the new material has increased by 130%, and it achieves 100% lead-free composition, fully meeting the requirements for green and environmentally friendly manufacturing. These two technological breakthroughs not only resolve industry pain points but also elevate the performance of LED headlights to a new level, providing strong safeguards for drivers' safety in adverse weather conditions.

Throughout the R&D process, the team has always emphasized close collaboration with the industry, establishing in-depth partnerships with enterprises such as Jiangxi Lvye Automotive Lighting Co., Ltd.

With the continuous improvement of technology and the acceleration of the industrialisation process, new-type antimony-based perovskite luminescent materials are expected to be widely applied in automotive lighting, urban lighting, smart homes, and other fields, driving the lighting industry towards greater efficiency and environmental protection.

Silicon Metal Market Review for January and Outlook for February
In January, the silicon metal market experienced a relatively loose supply-demand balance, with a theoretical inventory buildup of approximately 30,000 mt. In February, both supply and demand contracted simultaneously, and the market is expected to show a tight balance or minor destocking. The current high industry inventory still requires time to be digested, and the sustainability of destocking remains a key variable affecting price trends and market sentiment.

A plant in northern China is calling for bids for indium ingots and bismuth ingots
SMM, February 6 - According to SMM’s investigation of market information, a large smelter in northern China began public bidding for a certain quantity of indium ingots and bismuth ingots starting yesterday. Market sources indicate that the starting price for these indium ingots exceeds 4,000 yuan per kilogram, while the starting price for bismuth ingots is above 150,000 yuan per ton. The bidding results are expected to be announced before the Spring Festival. Market participants note that, given the clear trend of sluggish trading activity ahead of the Spring Festival, the timing of this bidding is not ideal. However, the relatively favorable starting prices have generated considerable market anticipation for the outcome of the bidding.
