Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 11 local time, BYD officially launched its plug-in hybrid pickup truck—the BYD SHARK 6—in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, according to a press release from BYD.

As the first vehicle of its kind in the country, the SHARK 6 combines rugged off-road capabilities, next-generation hybrid technology, and premium SUV-level features to offer local consumers a practical yet eco-conscious mobility option.

Zhang Jie, Deputy General Manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, commented, "With its versatile performance across use cases and exceptional energy efficiency, the BYD SHARK 6 is poised to become a top choice for Bhutanese customers. Looking ahead, BYD will continue to deepen its presence in the Bhutanese market, expanding its product lineup to deliver more diversified green mobility solutions."

At the heart of the SHARK 6 lies BYD's advanced DMO platform, which integrates multiple cutting-edge innovations to strike a balance between robust off-road performance and SUV-like ride comfort. The platform features a newly developed hybrid body-on-frame architecture, the world's first longitudinal EHS powertrain, dual front and rear double-wishbone independent suspension, and a four-wheel-drive system tailored for pickups. This ensures strong terrain adaptability and safety while maintaining fuel efficiency for everyday driving.

The event concluded with the ceremonial handover of the first SHARK 6 unit by BYD and its local partner Asanga, represented by CEO Mr. Thinley—signaling that the model is now officially on sale and available for immediate delivery in Bhutan.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
