Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 19, SAIC-GM officially started selling the refreshed Buick E5, an all-electric SUV model available in three variants priced between 149,900 yuan and 169,900 yuan.

As a key model in Buick's accelerating electrification push, the new E5 is built on the Ultium 2.0 multi-power architecture, combining the brand's longstanding strengths in safety, spaciousness, and build quality with significant upgrades in comfort and smart technology.

The new Buick E5 measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,681 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,954 mm, offering a cabin that continues the roomy legacy of its predecessor.

Inside, the SUV features a "theater-style" layout, with class-leading rear legroom, adjustable seatbacks, and 31 newly added storage compartments designed to meet the practical needs of family users.

Comfort enhancements include optimized seating with heating and ventilation in the front row and denser cushioning in the rear for better long-distance support. The vehicle offers a standard 502-liter trunk, which expands to 1,658 liters with the rear seats folded down, improving cargo versatility.

Powertrain options include both a front-wheel-drive version with a CLTC-rated range of 600 km and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant, both built on the Ultium 2.0 platform. The AWD version features an intelligent dual-motor setup balancing performance and efficiency.

On the technology front, the new Buick E5 debuts Buick's next-gen VCS intelligent cockpit system powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The system supports seamless voice interaction and multi-screen display. The driver assistance suite now includes features like automated lane change assist, traffic jam assist, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree surround view system.

A standout innovation is the new Buick E5's new cabin climate management system, integrating smart ventilation, seat temperature control, and air quality monitoring. This system can be remotely configured via a mobile app, offering personalized comfort even before entering the vehicle.

Buick has adopted a straightforward "no-bargain” strategy for the new E5, with clear tiering among trims. Even the base model features a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and Level 2 driver assistance features. Analysts say the new E5’s generous interior space and robust safety configuration may help it stand out in the competitive 150,000 yuan–200,000 yuan segment, which includes both domestic and joint venture rivals.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
