Since June 13, geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have been escalating, and their impact on the commodity and shipping markets has already become apparent. According to CCTV News, on June 17 local time, three vessels caught fire in the Sea of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz. As the Strait of Hormuz is known as the "world's oil valve" and the "main valve of the Middle East's oil depot," international oil prices have continued to rise since the news broke. In fact, oil shipping rates have also surged significantly. Several shipping and commodity research experts stated in interviews that oil shipping rates would experience an upward trend in the short term, and the subsequent trend in freight rates would depend on the extent of the escalation of the situation and the actions that Iran might take regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
