The company said it would introduce five vehicle models across its two brands (NIO and FIREFLY) in the five European markets.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)-On June 17, NIO announced the plans to further expand its European operations between 2025 and 2026.

The company said it would introduce five vehicle models across its two brands (NIO and FIREFLY) in the five European markets—Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Denmark—through a national general distributor model. The models include the NIO-branded EL6 (named ES6 in China), EL8 (named ES8 in China), ET5, ET5 Touring (named ET5T in China), and the new firefly compact model.

In Portugal, NIO will partner with JAP Group, a leading mobility service provider in southwestern Europe with over 120 years of industry experience. In Greece, NIO has teamed up with the well-established global mobility service group Motodynamics, with market entries scheduled for 2025 in Greece and 2026 in both Cyprus and Bulgaria.

For the Danish market, NIO will collaborate with the Nic. Christiansen Group, a leading Nordic mobility company, to deliver innovative, sustainable, and high-quality smart electric mobility solutions to local consumers.

NIO's global expansion began with its entry into Norway in May 2021, marking the company's first step into overseas markets. Since then, NIO has continued to accelerate its international strategy. In 2024, it announced plans to enter the Middle East and North Africa ("MENA") region and establish a technology R&D center in the UAE.

The expansion news follows the release of NIO's financial results for the first quarter of 2025. The company reported revenue of 12.03 billion yuan, a 21.46% year-on-year increase. However, net losses widened to 6.89 billion yuan, up 31% from a year earlier. Gross margin declined to 7.6%, down two percentage points from the previous quarter.

In terms of deliveries, NIO delivered 42,094 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, comprising 27,313 units from its premium NIO brand and 14,781 from its family-oriented ONVO marque.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
