Shanghai (Gasgoo)- EHang, a Chinese urban air mobility (UAM) technology company, announced on June 18 that it had entered into an in-depth strategic partnership with Gotion High-tech, a pioneer in power battery innovation.
The collaboration marks a significant upgrade from the framework agreement signed in December 2023 and signals a deepening of joint efforts in developing next-generation power systems for EHang's flagship EH216 series of autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Building on their earlier cooperation, the two companies will focus on enhancing the EH216's propulsion system and plan to extend their partnership across future eVTOL platforms. The goal is to leverage cutting-edge battery technology to support the emerging low-altitude economy and accelerate the creation of a safe, autonomous, and green three-dimensional transportation network.
Under the new agreement, Gotion High-tech will deliver customized power battery solutions for the EH216 series, built around its newly developed 46-series high-energy-density, high-power cells. These new batteries are expected to deliver significant performance upgrades, including extended flight range, greater thrust, and enhanced safety. These improvements will enable the EH216 to perform more efficiently across diverse commercial applications, providing strong momentum for the commercialization of low-altitude air mobility.
Beyond upgrading the existing EH216 model, the partnership also represents a key step in EHang's long-term strategy to build a comprehensive energy ecosystem for future eVTOL products. The companies jointly announced plans to expand their collaboration to future EHang aircraft, aiming to co-develop safer, more efficient, and cost-effective eVTOL solutions. Gotion High-tech's continued advances in battery technology—especially in standardized and platform-based systems—are expected to serve as a critical driver of EHang's future competitiveness in the UAM and low-altitude logistics markets.
