Audi has suspended its comprehensive electrification plan and will no longer set a clear timetable for discontinuing the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles. According to Gernot Döllner, Audi's Global CEO, who was interviewed on June 18, the company has overturned the previous management's plan to halt R&D and sales of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2033, and is currently not setting a specific end timetable. Döllner stated that Audi will launch a new series of internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2024 to 2026 to enhance flexibility over the next decade. Meanwhile, Audi will take the lead in developing the platform architecture and software systems for mid-to-large-sized car models within the Volkswagen Group, covering all models above the A5 level. This work also includes the next-generation SSP platform, with the first Audi models equipped with this platform expected to hit the market by the end of 2027 or in 2028, marking the Volkswagen Group's first comprehensive shift towards "software-defined vehicles.
