Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shenzhen's Dapeng New Area recently signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality (New Energy Vehicle Industry Office), the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, and China's FAW Group to advance innovation and development in the flying car industry, according to a press release issued on June 16 via the WeChat account "iDapeng").

This agreement officially marks the establishment of FAW Group's flying car headquarters project in Dapeng New Area, Shenzhen city.

Under the agreement, the four parties will collaborate comprehensively across core areas including flying vehicle R&D, manufacturing, and market expansion. Joint efforts will focus on technology breakthroughs, application scenarios, and ecosystem building, while also exploring policy innovation and scalable production. The goal is to accelerate the high-quality development of Shenzhen's flying car sector, positioning the city as a national leader in the emerging low-altitude economy and future three-dimensional mobility.

As part of the initiative, FAW Group will register a new subsidiary—FAW Qiyi (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd.—in Dapeng New Area to carry out business activities encompassing flying car development, production, testing, and operations. The company aims to establish the global headquarters of FAW Group's flying car subsidiary in Shenzhen and gradually expand into R&D, manufacturing, and operational service centers.

FAW Group has already made significant strides in the sector, having developed the Hongqi TianNian No. 1 flying car. The model debuted at the AUTO SHANGHAI 2025, the 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, and the 2025 International Automobile & Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong).

The Hongqi TianNian No. 1 features a modular design with an aerial range exceeding 200 kilometers. It supports vertical takeoff and landing within designated zones, targeting high-end use cases such as intercity travel, tourism, specialized mid- to long-distance operations, and executive transport. A maiden flight is expected later this year.

FAW Group stated that it will continue leveraging its strengths in automotive manufacturing, supply chain integration, and the Hongqi brand. The company plans to unite expertise from both the automotive and aviation sectors to focus on independent innovation in core technologies such as vehicle architecture, propulsion systems, flight control, avionics, and airworthiness safety, while also exploring digital development solutions for the flying car industry.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
