XPENG AEROHT completes China’s first wireless communication test for flying cars

XPENG AEROHT, a flying car company affiliated to XPENG, recently completed China's first wireless communication performance test for flying cars, with technical support from the CICV.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- XPENG AEROHT, a flying car company affiliated to XPENG, recently completed China's first wireless communication performance test for flying cars, with technical support from the National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles ("CICV"), according to a post issued on June 13 via the WeChat account of Beijing E-Town. This breakthrough marks a critical step toward ensuring communication security for future low-altitude air mobility systems.

XPENG AEROHT's product lineup currently includes several innovative flying car models, such as the XPENG X2 and the "Land Aircraft Carrier" Modular Flying Car. The recent test focused on a core technological element of flying cars — their wireless communication systems — and evaluated system reliability through simulations of real-world use cases.

Two major challenges complicate wireless communication for flying vehicles: signal attenuation in complex electromagnetic environments, and interference caused by the vehicle's structure and materials with antenna radiation patterns. To address these, the CICV's full-vehicle wireless communication laboratory worked closely with XPENG AEROHT's technical team to conduct four key tests:

Passive performance of the complete antenna system

Active antenna performance

Coexistence of signals in the onboard communication system

Degradation of receiver sensitivity under real-world conditions

The tests simulated realistic flight scenarios, assessing performance in both upright and inverted flying positions. The evaluations spanned a comprehensive range of communication protocols, including 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS, ensuring a holistic assessment of all onboard wireless communication modules for accuracy and reliability.

According to the official statement, this round of testing not only enhances the communication performance of XPENG AEROHT's flying cars but also helps establish a wireless communication verification framework for low-altitude airspace. The results contribute directly to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's call for technological breakthroughs under its "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Low-Altitude Economy."
