At the 2025 SMM (2nd) Southeast Asia Automotive Supply Chain Conference hosted by SMM, Yao Xinying, the Director of Industry Research for SMM's Steel Category, announced the SMM Thailand Metal Prices and SMM Thailand Steel Prices, helping enterprises identify fair prices and reduce transaction costs.

Founded in 1999, SMM is an independent price reporting agency.

Why Launch SMM Thailand Metal Prices?

The Thai manufacturing industry still faces numerous obstacles in price referencing and settlement.

1. Lack of Authoritative Price Benchmarks

Thailand lacks an independent third-party price reporting platform, resulting in a lack of unified and credible price references for metal transactions. This makes it difficult for buyers and sellers to reach fair pricing agreements, exacerbating market price confusion.

2. Low Price Transparency

Due to the absence of professional price information disclosure channels, metal transaction price data is scattered and not publicly available. Market participants cannot obtain timely and accurate market information, increasing the difficulty of price discovery and the risk of transaction decisions.

3. Inadequate Settlement System

The lack of a standardized price reference system makes metal transaction settlements lack reliable basis, easily leading to contract disputes and settlement controversies. This reduces capital turnover efficiency and hinders the large-scale development of the market.

4. Susceptibility to Market Manipulation, Increasing Transaction Costs

Without third-party institutions providing price monitoring, the market is vulnerable to interference from a small number of traders or speculative activities. Meanwhile, the mutual trust issues caused by one-sided bargaining, including mutual trust obstacles between internal procurement and finance/management within enterprises, will all increase transaction costs.

SMM maintains close ties with the upstream and downstream of Thailand's metal industry chain, launching SMM Thailand Metal Prices to facilitate market transactions.
