Rock Tech Lithium has secured €800,000 in funding from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Raw Materials Alliance's KAVA program to optimize lithium conversion processes and drive innovation at its Guben plant in Germany. The project had previously been designated as a strategic project under the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act by the European Commission and received approval from the Brandenburg state government in early 2024. The company is collaborating with international partners, including the National Technical University of Athens, through the "OLiVer" project to enhance lithium extraction efficiency from spodumene and increase lithium hydroxide capacity. The focus is on optimizing pyrometallurgical-hydrometallurgical processes, developing new-type lithium sulfate recovery technologies, and integrating production processes to strengthen the cost and operational advantages of the Guben site.
