[Live] Changes in the Global Supply-Demand Pattern of the Secondary Metal Industry: Opportunities and Challenges in the Secondary Copper, Aluminum, and Battery Recycling Markets

Published: Jun 12, 2025 16:31

Since the global consensus on green and low-carbon development was reached, the strategic importance of the secondary metal industry has been growing. With the acceleration of industrialization, the demand for metal resources has continued to rise. Secondary metals have become a global focus due to their green, environmentally friendly, and economically viable characteristics.

In recent years, Southeast Asia has emerged as a crucial hub for the collection, distribution, and processing of global secondary resources. As industries such as NEVs continue to expand internationally, companies involved in secondary copper, aluminum, and battery sectors have been establishing factories in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand. Thailand, as a key economy in Southeast Asia, boasts a mature resource recycling system and a strategic geographical location, facilitating regional collaboration and international trade in the secondary metal industry. Currently, Thailand has developed into a significant base for the recycling, sorting, and reprocessing of secondary metals such as secondary aluminum and secondary copper, exporting substantial amounts of secondary metal resources to China and other countries annually. Additionally, the robust growth of Thailand's manufacturing sector, particularly in automotive manufacturing and electronics, provides strong demand support for the secondary metal resource industry.

From 2024 to 2025, with the continuous updates in secondary metal policies and rapid industrial development, to assist enterprises in navigating the changes in the secondary industry, aligning with industry standardization requirements, and providing a platform for business exchanges, the 2025 SMM (2nd) Global Secondary Metal Industry Summit, hosted by SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd., was grandly held at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit from June 12th to 13th!

This summit aims to bring together associations, top-tier enterprises, research institutions, industry experts, and policymakers from the global secondary metal sector to jointly explore new trends, technologies, and policies in the development of the secondary metal industry. It will establish an international platform for exchanges, cooperation, resource sharing, and collaborative innovation, contributing to the construction and improvement of the global resource recycling system and the realization of a global green economic transition!

SMM will provide live photo and text coverage of the summit throughout the event. Stay tuned!
