A consortium led by Qatar’s UCC Holding has signed a USD 7-billion agreement with Syria’s Ministry of Energy to support infrastructure reconstruction and energy security. The deal includes a 1-GW solar power plant in southern Syria and four combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants totaling 4 GW.
The consortium also includes Power International USA LLC and Turkish firms Kalyon GES Enerji and Cengiz Enerji. The gas plants will be located in Traifawi, Zayzoun, Deir-Azzour, and Mehardeh, with completion targeted within three years, while the solar project is expected in under two years.
Syria’s Energy Minister Mohammed Al Bashir called the agreement a pivotal step in rebuilding the energy sector. He stated the projects will help meet rising electricity demand and positively affect Syria’s economic and social development.
