This week's recycling industry events.

【16,000-ton Recycled Lithium Battery Mixed Powder Project Launched】

Recently, the Hengyang Municipal Government in Hunan Province published the EIA acceptance notice for the "Annual 16,000-ton Recycled Lithium Battery Mixed Powder Project" by a local company, marking a significant step in the region’s power battery recycling sector. With an investment of ¥48 million, the project is located in the Songmu Economic Development Zone, Hunan. It will establish two recycled lithium battery mixed powder production lines alongside supporting utilities and environmental facilities. Using scrap lithium battery electrode sheets as raw materials, the project employs advanced 6th-generation graded crushing and grinding technology in a fully enclosed closed-loop process to produce recycled mixed powder (cathode/anode blend), along with byproducts like copper and aluminum granules. The project will be implemented in two phases, each adding one production line. Upon completion, it will yield ~16,000 tons of mixed powder annually (~8,000 tons per phase).

【100,000-Set Retired EV Battery Recycling Project Announced】

The Ecology and Environment Bureau of Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, recently announced the pending EIA approval for a "Power Battery Recycling and Cascaded Utilization Project." This initiative adds new momentum to Shandong’s green energy industry development. Invested at ¥120 million by a local group, the project will lease space in the High-end Intelligent Equipment Industrial Park. The facility will include battery pack disassembly, cascaded utilization assembly, raw material storage, and finished product zones, forming an annual processing capacity of 100,000 retired EV power battery packs.

【20,000-ton Battery Crushing & Recycling Project Initiated】

The Yichang Ecology and Environment Bureau in Hubei Province released the first EIA notice for a "20,000-ton Annual Lithium Battery Crushing and Recycling System Project" by a local new energy company, drawing industry attention. The ¥35 million project, located in the Wufeng Ethnic Industrial Park, will construct a 15,000m² plant housing automated production lines for battery crushing, electrode washing, separator cleaning, and copper/aluminum separation. Equipped with dust collection, exhaust purification, and wastewater recycling systems, it will process 20,000 tons of spent power batteries annually.

【60,000-ton/year Battery Recycling Project Breaks Ground】

A 60,000-ton/year lithium battery recycling project has commenced construction. Covering 29.93 mu (≈2 hectares), it will include steel/industrial structures, R&D facilities, offices, and environmental/utility infrastructure. Upon completion, outputs will include energy storage modules/systems, black mass, copper/aluminum powder, and casings.

【50,000-ton Battery Recycling Project Launched in Jiangxi】

On May 26, the Ganzhou Administrative Examination Bureau in Jiangxi Province published the EIA acceptance notice for a "Power Battery Disassembly and Crushing Project (Phase I)" by a local company. Located in Dayu County’s Xinhua Industrial Park, the project’s total investment is ¥500 million (Phase I: ¥80 million). Phase I will process 25,000 tons of spent ternary lithium batteries annually, with Phase II adding equal capacity. Using spent ternary batteries as feedstock, the process includes testing, discharging, shredding, pyrolysis, crushing, and screening to recover mixed electrode powder, copper, and aluminum.

【¥500 Million Fluorochemical Project Under Construction】

A fluorochemical project is advancing at the Wuchuan Fluorine-Barium Industrial Park. With a ¥500 million investment and occupying ≈170 mu (≈11.3 hectares), it will establish an 80,000-ton/year high-performance anhydrous aluminum fluoride production line and supporting facilities (including 60,000-ton/year anhydrous hydrogen fluoride). Infrastructure includes offices, workshops, storage, and utilities. Site preparation is scheduled for completion next month, with operations starting in June 2025. The project will pioneer fluorite-based anhydrous hydrogen fluoride production locally, filling a gap in Guizhou’s fluorochemical chain. Annual revenue is projected at ¥1.5 billion.

【High-Performance Fluorine-Chlorine Materials Project EIA Published】

An EIA notice was issued for a high-performance fluorine-chlorine materials integration project. The company is advancing a ¥41 billion high-performance silicon-fluorine materials project in two phases. Partial operations are planned by end-2025, with full completion in 2027. The project will cover industrial silicon, polysilicon, and fluoropolymer production, supported by methane chloride and hydrofluoric acid units.

【Cathode Material Supply Agreement Signed】

A major cathode material supply agreement was secured. On June 2, a holding company subsidiary signed a production and pricing agreement with a Malaysian partner. From 2026 to 2030, the subsidiary and affiliates will supply 152,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate cathode material to the partner and affiliates, with total contract value exceeding ¥5 billion.
