Shanghai (Gasgoo)-IM Motor, the premium electric vehicle brand backed by SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang High-Tech, announced on June 2 that its flagship midsize intelligent SUV—the IM LS7—had already gone on sale in Mexico.

According to the company, the move marks a major milestone in IM Motor's globalization strategy. Following its initial success in Thailand, the brand is now using Mexico as a strategic foothold to accelerate its presence in the Latin American market, signaling a new phase of rapid global development.

Mexico is considered one of the most promising new energy vehicle (NEV) markets in Latin America. Leveraging SAIC Motor's strong global infrastructure and mature sales network, the IM LS7 aims to quickly penetrate the region's premium NEV segment.

As a core product in IM Motor's international strategy, the IM LS7 overseas edition comes equipped with a suite of industry-leading technologies, including a panoramic 106-degree IMAX ultra-wide field of view, a full-scenario intelligent five-seat layout, zero-gravity seats, and a one-click AI valet driving feature.

IM Motor is rapidly expanding its global footprint from Southeast Asia to Latin America. In mid-April, the company signed a partnership agreement with SMART MOBILITY International ("SMI"), a leading player in the UAE's NEV sector. The collaboration aims to establish a strong presence in the UAE and Saudi Arabian markets, with the UAE serving as a strategic hub for expansion across the Middle East. IM Motor plans to enter Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia by 2025 and expects to cover the entire Middle Eastern market by 2026.

Earlier in April, IM Motor officially entered the Australian market and debuted two global models—the IM6 and IM5 (the overseas editions of the IM LS6 and the IM L6)—at the Melbourne Motor Show. Both models are slated for official market launch in Australia by mid-year.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
