Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In May 2025, NIO Inc. ("NIO" or "the company"), a leading player in China's smart electric vehicle (EV) market, delivered 23,231 vehicles, representing a 13.1% year-on-year increase, according to a press release from the company.

Of these, 13,270 units came from its premium smart EV brand NIO, while its family-oriented ONVO brand delivered 6,281 vehicles. FIREFLY, NIO's high-end smart EV brand, delivered 3,680 vehicles in its first full month on the market.

As of May 31, 2025, the company had delivered a total of 760,789 vehicles, including 710,655 under the NIO brand, 46,223 under ONVO, and 3,911 under FIREFLY.

In the latter half of May, NIO launched and began deliveries of four revamped models: the all-purpose smart electric SUV new ES6, the coupe-style electric SUV new EC6, the mid-size electric coupe new ET5, and the smart electric tourer new ET5T. These rollouts marked the mass production debut of NIO's "next-gen trio"—the proprietary NX9031 ADAS chip, the SkyOS operating system, and the SkyRide intelligent chassis. June will be the first full delivery month for all four upgraded models.

Additionally, the first version of NIO's much-anticipated "NIO World Model" (NWM) began rolling out on May 30. The initial push covers over 400,000 "Banyan" platform vehicles, while the "Cedar" platform-based models—including the ET9, new ES6, new EC6, new ET5, and new ET5T—are scheduled to receive the update by the end of June.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
