Australia Condemns U.S. Plan to Raise Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

On May 31, US President Trump stated on May 30 local time that starting from June 4, import tariffs on steel and aluminum would be raised from 25% to 50%. On May 31 local time, Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell responded, saying that Australia's stance has been consistent and clear. These tariffs are unreasonable and not the act of a friend. Farrell said, "This is an act of economic self-harm that will only harm consumers and businesses that rely on free and fair trade. We will continue to push for and strongly advocate for the removal of these tariffs.
