[Hudbay Issues Update on Wildfire Response near Flin Flon, Manitoba]
On May 29th, Hudbay Minerals Inc. has issued a statement in response to the escalating wildfire situation in northern Manitoba, particularly affecting the Flin Flon area. The company is working closely with local authorities to ensure employee safety and is complying with the regional evacuation order covering Flin Flon and its surroundings. Although Hudbay ceased active mining in Flin Flon following the closure of the 777 mine in 2022, the company continues to carry out care and maintenance activities and operates key support functions for its Snow Lake operations from the area, including concentrate handling, fabrication shops, and administrative offices. Only essential personnel authorized by emergency services remain in Flin Flon to assist with emergency efforts. Hudbay’s Snow Lake operation, located approximately 200 km east of Flin Flon, continues to operate. However, as many employees reside in Flin Flon, the company anticipates temporary production disruptions. Still, Hudbay remains confident in meeting its 2025 full-year production guidance, citing strong year-to-date performance at Snow Lake. Rob Carter, Vice President of Hudbay’s Manitoba Business Unit, stated:“The safety of our employees, their families, and the communities we serve is our top priority. We continue to closely monitor the wildfire situation and are committed to resuming full operations as soon as it is safe to do so.”
