Precision Denitration Technology for Magnesium Smelting Industry Passes Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Achievements

Published: May 30, 2025 14:47

Recently, the magnesium smelting industry's precision denitration technology with independent intellectual property rights, jointly developed by Yulin Zhongke Clean Energy Innovation Research Institute, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shaanxi TCL Zhonghuan Carbon Energy Technology Co., Ltd., has passed the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements organized by the All-China Environment Federation. After deliberation by the evaluation committee, the technological achievement has reached the leading level in China's magnesium smelting industry, with its integrated innovation generally reaching the internationally advanced level.

It is reported that after the application of this technology, nitrogen oxide emissions can be reduced by 10,000 mt per year, with an overall reduction in emission levels by 70%, equivalent to recreating 20 square kilometers of forest. The emissions of multiple pollutants, including particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and hydrogen chloride, are simultaneously reduced. The denitration cost per mt of magnesium can be reduced by 80 to 90 yuan, saving 70% in equipment investment and 80% in operating costs compared to traditional technologies. By synergistically treating ammonia-containing wastewater, the daily treatment capacity reaches 20 mt, forming a circular economy model of "treating waste with waste" and truly achieving a win-win situation for environmental protection and benefits.

Currently, this technology has been applied at Fugu County Yufeng Magnesium Alloy Co., Ltd. The industrialized equipment for dual-mode combined precision denitration of high-temperature flue gas in the calcination section has been operating continuously and stably for three months, with the atmospheric emission concentration of nitrogen oxides below 400mg/Nm3 (hourly average). Meanwhile, 15 to 30 mt of ammonia-phenol wastewater from the semi coke section is synergistically treated daily, saving over 30,000 yuan in wastewater treatment costs per day. The industrial sideline device of the three-series spray tower with "wet desulfurization + oxidation + reduction absorption" can enable the nitrogen oxide emission concentration in the flue gas from the reduction and refining section to meet the requirements of the "Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Magnesium Industry in Northern Shaanxi Region." Both the technical feasibility and conditions for industrial implementation have been verified.

This technology addresses the challenge of nitrogen oxide emission reduction and control in the magnesium smelting industry, with good economic value and social benefits. It is expected to promote the green and low-carbon technological upgrading of China's magnesium smelting industry and provide key technological support for the high-quality development of the industry.
