According to foreign media reports, Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), the Guinean subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), hopes to restart negotiations with the Guinean government to lift the current regulatory measures hindering its bauxite mining operations. The Guinean government suspended GAC's bauxite exports and mining operations in October 2024. Reports indicate that the Guinean government initiated the process of revoking EGA's mining license due to EGA's failure to construct an alumina refinery. GAC stated that it has consistently complied with all obligations stipulated in the agreements signed with Guinea. According to informed sources, GAC has accumulated a backlog of nearly 2 million mt of bauxite inventory since its shutdown.
