Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 22, DEEPAL, a new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under Changan Automobile, officially put the DEEPAL S09, a large-sized SUV positioned as a "smart flagship for families", onto the market.

The model is offered in five variants, priced between 239,900 yuan and 309,900 yuan, with post-subsidy prices ranging from 204,900 yuan to 274,900 yuan. Built on DEEPAL's Super Range Extender 2.0 platform, the S09 comes equipped with the HarmonySpace 5 intelligent cockpit system and Huawei's Qiankun advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS).

The exterior design adopts DEEPAL's latest styling language, combining a stylish and commanding presence. The front features a semi-closed grille, a 1,836mm integrated star-ring petal headlamp, and a full-width LED daytime running light strip, visually widening the front fascia. The high and low beam modules are integrated into air duct-style insets, while a trapezoidal lower intake adds to the SUV's modern aesthetic.

Along the sides, a sharp shoulder line runs from the front to the rear, giving the DEEPAL S09 a bold and muscular stance. Sculpted side skirts enhance the visual depth of the elongated body, complemented by flush door handles, electric side steps, and multiple wheel design options. The rear two rows of windows are blacked out for added privacy.

In terms of dimensions, the DEEPAL S09 measures 5,205mm in length, 1,996mm in width, and 1,800mm in height, with a 3,105mm wheelbase.

The rear design is clean and full-bodied, echoing the front with a through-type taillight strip split by the DEEPAL logo for a distinctive lighting signature. Silver chrome trim on the rear bumper adds visual structure and depth.

Inside, the cabin presents a modern and tech-forward layout. A multifunction capacitive steering wheel is paired with an electronic column-mounted shifter, while a 43-inch head-up display (HUD) offers clear visual guidance. The HarmonySpace system provides a rich in-car application ecosystem, featuring dual 15.6-inch 2.5K ultra-wide screens up front and a 21.4-inch 3K entertainment screen in the rear.

The DEEPAL S09 also includes an integrated smart mobile island with a temperature-adjustable refrigerator ranging from -6°C to 50°C. It adopts a 6-seat "2+2+2" layout. The front seats support ventilation, heating, and 8-point massage functions. Rear passengers enjoy dual zero-gravity massage seats with the same 8-point massage, as well as heating and ventilation.

Notably, even with all three rows occupied, the vehicle still offers a spacious 427L trunk—enough to accommodate seven 20-inch suitcases.

Under the hood, the DEEPAL S09 is powered by a range-extender system comprising a 1.5T engine and a high-performance electric motor. The 1.5T engine delivers a maximum output of 110 kW. The model is available in single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, with the single motor rated at 231 kW and the dual motors at 131 kW (front) and 231 kW (rear). A 40.18kWh battery provides a CLTC-rated battery-powered range of 220 km for the 2WD model and 210 km for the AWD version.

As for driver assistance, the DEEPAL S09 is equipped with Huawei's Qiankun ADS system across the lineup, supporting adaptive cruise assist, highway lane cruising assist, highway navigation assist, and urban lane navigation assist. An enhanced urban lane cruising feature is available as an option. The top two trims come standard with Huawei's 192-line LiDAR and offer optional urban navigation and parking-to-parking autonomous driving features. The vehicle is expected to upgrade to HUAWEI ADS 4 in the second half of 2025.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
