United Solar Polysilicon (USP) has signed a joint development agreement with Oman's OQ Alternative Energy to build a 700-MW solar power project. While the investment size and construction timeline have not been disclosed, the project aims to support Oman’s clean energy transition.
USP is also advancing plans for a polysilicon factory in Sohar Port and Freezone with a projected annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. The USD 1.6 billion project secured funding from the International Finance Corporation in April and is set to be the first of its kind in the Middle East.
Company leaders from both sides stated the collaboration reflects a shared goal of leveraging the region’s solar potential and setting a precedent for renewable energy initiatives in the region.
