According to SMM, copper miner Freeport Indonesia stated that its Manyar smelter, located in East Java and costing US$3.7 billion, has resumed operations ahead of schedule after being shut down due to a fire last year, and is expected to commence production in the fourth week of June. Chief Executive Officer Tony Wenas said in a statement on Thursday that the smelter is expected to operate at full capacity in December. A major fire broke out at the smelter in October last year. Wenas stated that the repair work was completed ahead of schedule.
