On May 22, [LME 0-3 copper] backwardation was $15.88/mt, with open interest at 287,484 lots, up 2,153 lots. On May 22, [LME 0-3 aluminum] contango was $7.82/mt, with open interest at 691,375 lots, up 2,936 lots. On May 22, [LME 0-3 lead] contango was $22.37/mt, with open interest at 139,160 lots, up 759 lots. On May 22, [LME 0-3 zinc] contango was $24.16/mt, with open interest at 212,114 lots, down 866 lots. On May 22, [LME 0-3 tin] contango was $140/mt, with open interest at 21,682 lots, up 169 lots. On May 22, [LME 0-3 nickel] contango was $193.49/mt, with open interest at 237,043 lots, up 739 lots.

As the aftermath of the trade war lingers, the import pattern of secondary copper in China is accelerating its restructuring

The latest data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) indicates that in April 2025, China's imports of copper scrap and shredded copper scrap showed a trend of "MoM recovery but YoY contraction," with monthly imports reaching 204,700 mt, up 7.92% MoM but down 9.46% YoY. From January to April, cumulative imports totaled 777,000 mt, a slight YoY decrease of 0.81% (HS code 74040000).
