[TSMC Sends Letter to US Department of Commerce: Proposes Exemption for Semiconductor-Related Tariffs] According to the official website of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) under the US Department of Commerce, TSMC, the world's largest chip manufacturer, and Intel, a US chip company, have submitted comment letters to the US Department of Commerce, opposing the tariff hike on semiconductors and related equipment and materials. In its letter, TSMC stated that imposing tariffs on semiconductor production equipment would increase costs, potentially delay schedules, and even, in some cases, jeopardize the commercial feasibility of many announced and under-consideration projects. TSMC suggested that products difficult to manufacture domestically in the US should be exempted from tariffs. Additionally, the US government should not impose tariffs or other restrictive measures on semiconductors manufactured outside the US, downstream end-use products containing semiconductors, or semi-finished products.
