Pony.ai recorded total revenue of 102 million yuan (approximately USD 13.98 million) in Q1 2025, marking a 12% year-on-year increase.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Pony.ai, a leading player in China's autonomous driving sector, has released its unaudited financial results for the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, reporting strong growth in both revenue and business scale.

According to the report, Pony.ai recorded total revenue of 102 million yuan (approximately USD 13.98 million) in Q1, marking a 12% year-on-year increase. This growth was largely fueled by the rapid expansion of its Robotaxi operations, which generated 12.3 million yuan (around USD 1.73 million) in revenue—a year-on-year surge of 200%. Passenger fare income skyrocketed 800% over a year earlier, while revenue from technical solution projects also grew steadily, together forming a solid foundation for the overall revenue increase.

The strong performance of the Robotaxi segment is closely linked to Pony.ai's extensive rollout of paid services in major metropolitan areas. The company's Robotaxi services now operate across key urban centers including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, covering over 2,000 square kilometers. This network spans core city districts, airports, and high-speed rail stations, significantly enhancing user experience and generating higher order volumes and revenue.

Alongside business expansion, Pony.ai continues to focus on cost control and operational efficiency. Its newly launched seventh-generation Robotaxi system has reduced the total cost of autonomous driving technology suite by 70% compared to the previous generation, thanks to improvements in computing efficiency and hardware optimization. Co-founder and CEO James Peng stated that 2025 will mark the beginning of mass production for the company's Robotaxi fleet, with the goal of expanding the fleet to 1,000 vehicles by the end of the year.

To support this ambition, Pony.ai is forming strategic partnerships with automakers including Toyota, BAIC, and GAC to accelerate pre-installed mass production of the seventh-generation Robotaxi. The company also increased its R&D investment significantly, with adjusted R&D spending reaching 295 million yuan (about USD 40.58 million) in the first quarter, up 38% year-on-year, as it aims to maintain its technological edge in autonomous driving.

Beyond strengthening its domestic operations, Pony.ai is actively advancing its global footprint. The company has secured Robotaxi testing permits in Luxembourg, begun road tests in Seoul's Gangnam District, and launched its first joint autonomous mobility service project with Singapore's transport operator ComfortDelGro. These international moves underscore Pony.ai's competitiveness on the global stage and lay a solid foundation for future overseas expansion.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
