Baidu's Apollo Go surpasses 11 million rides, expands global fleet to over 1,000 driverless vehicles

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Baidu announced on Wednesday that its autonomous ride-hailing service, Apollo Go, has delivered more than 11 million rides to the public as of May 2025. The service has deployed over 1,000 fully driverless vehicles worldwide and now operates across 15 cities.

"With a global fleet of over a thousand driverless vehicles, we're reinforcing our position as the world's leading autonomous ride-hailing provider," said Baidu CEO Robin Li. He added that the company plans to deepen its footprint in existing markets while exploring new ones, aiming to seize wider growth opportunities around the world.

In the first quarter alone, Apollo Go completed more than 1.4 million rides, representing a 75% year-on-year surge. The service expanded into Dubai and Abu Dhabi in March, and began open-road testing in Dubai in May. In April, it secured approval to conduct road testing with designated passengers in Hong Kong—its first market for right-hand drive vehicles.

Apollo Go has validated its business model in key Chinese cities with dense traffic and price-sensitive users, achieving 100% fully driverless operations on the Chinese Mainland. "This success gives us strong confidence to expand into overseas markets where ride-hailing services command higher pricing, allowing us to replicate and refine our proven approach," Mr. Li said.

He also pointed to a clear path to profitability, citing declining hardware costs and increasing scale as drivers of greater operational efficiency. "With our leadership in both technology and operations, we believe Apollo Go will remain at the forefront of the industry and play a central role in Baidu's long-term growth," Mr. Li added.

Earlier this month, Baidu entered into a long-term partnership with China's leading car rental provider, CAR Inc., to roll out fully autonomous vehicle rental services.
