Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 20, 2025, Chinese leading commercial vehicle maker FOTON and Huawei Digital Power signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shenzhen to jointly accelerate the electrification of heavy-duty trucks, according to a press release from FOTON.

Leveraging their respective strengths, the two companies aim to develop multi-scenario solutions and establish an integrated megawatt-level ultra-fast charging network. The collaboration seeks to expand electric heavy-duty trucks from limited-use cases to full operational scenarios, significantly reducing logistics costs and carbon emissions, and ushering in a new era of fully electric logistics.

Huawei Digital Power focuses on integrating digital and power electronics technologies to promote clean energy and digital energy transformation. In April 2025, the company launched its megawatt-level ultra-fast charging solution tailored for heavy-duty trucks. Delivering a stable output of 2,400 amps, the system is four times more efficient than conventional charging methods, enabling a "five-minute charge for 100 kilometers of range."

The partnership between FOTON and Huawei Digital Power aims to address key challenges in the pure electric heavy-duty truck segment, such as prolonged charging times and low operational efficiency. Megawatt ultra-fast charging, as a crucial energy replenishment solution, will be advanced through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and industrial resources. This will accelerate the market launch of commercial vehicle models compatible with the new charging standard, enabling smarter, more efficient, and energy-saving solutions for the commercial vehicle ecosystem.

China's new energy heavy-duty truck market has seen rapid growth in recent years, driven by increasingly stringent environmental regulations and rising demand for sustainable transportation. The economic viability and practicality of new energy trucks have made them a pivotal direction for future market development. In 2025, FOTON's core businesses—new energy vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and exports—have all delivered strong performance. Notably, sales of the Foton Auman new energy heavy-duty truck surged 322% year-on-year in April, underscoring the market's urgent demand for electrification solutions.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
