Online data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) showed that China's copper scrap imports in April reached 204,700 mt, up 7.92% MoM and down 9.43% YoY. Among them, shipments from Japan increased by 20.95% MoM to approximately 32,700 mt, retaining the top position. Shipments from Thailand also surged by over 20% to around 25,000 mt, surpassing the US to become the second-largest supplier. Previously, the US had been China's largest copper scrap supplier. However, the escalation of trade disputes earlier had hindered the import of secondary copper from the US. Recently, there have been signs of easing in Sino-US tariff frictions, and it remains to be seen whether there will be a substantive recovery in the import of secondary copper from the US.
