According to foreign media reports, Canada's Ivanhoe Mines said on Tuesday that it had suspended underground mining operations at the Kakula copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) due to seismic activity. Underground operations were halted on Sunday after a week of tremors. The company stated that all employees working underground had been safely evacuated, and the western zone of the mine had been declared safe for operations to resume. The mine's two beneficiation plants are processing ore inventory at low capacity and accelerating copper ore mining at the Kamoa-Kakula complex. In the DRC, Ivanhoe also operates the Kipushi zinc-copper mine.
