According to official news from CATL, the Energy Storage System (ESS) and power battery production site of Shandong Amperex Technology Co., Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Shandong Amperex") was officially put into operation in Yanzhou District, Jining City recently. This is CATL's first production site in northern China and also the one with the largest capacity planned in the region so far.

According to official news from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the energy storage and power battery production site of Shandong Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("Shandong Times" for short) was officially put into operation in Yanzhou District, Jining City recently.

This is CATL's first production site in northern China and also the one with the largest capacity planning in the region so far.

It is reported that the new production site of Shandong Times was built according to the "Lighthouse + Zero Carbon Factory" standards and is equipped with the world's leading digital and intelligent production lines.

The new production site is constructed in three phases. The first phase, which has been put into operation, has a total capacity of 60 GWh, covers an area of over 800 mu (approximately 533,333 m²), and has a total construction area of 520,000 m², encompassing a comprehensive intelligent production space ranging from workshops to living facilities. The second and third phases of the project are expected to be put into operation in the next two years, which is anticipated to form a globally leading new energy battery industrial cluster with an output value of 100 billion yuan.

It is worth noting that CATL has also constructed a centralized PV power generation project with a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan and a capacity of 450 MW in Yanzhou District. Currently, 317 MW of the PV project has been completed and connected to the grid, with a cumulative grid-connected electricity generation of 580 million kWh.

In addition, the first phase of the 200 MW/400 MWh shared ESS power station project, with a total investment of 900 million yuan, has been completed, with a capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh and a cumulative charging capacity of 68 million kWh.

According to relevant persons in charge, centered around lithium battery manufacturing, there is green energy support at the front end and battery market application scenarios at the back end, forming a complete chain for the development of the new energy industry. This is a major feature of the projects located here.

From a timeline perspective, since CATL began its layout in Shandong in 2022, it has regarded the province as an important strategic region. In recent years, the cooperation between CATL and Shandong has been continuously strengthened.

On the same day, CATL signed a series of cooperation framework agreements with multiple parties: it will jointly build a zero-carbon city with Jining City and promote the battery swapping model in the transportation sector with the Shandong Provincial Department of Transportation. In addition, Shandong Times signed an agreement with Jining City to jointly build a new energy supporting industrial park. CATL Electric Ship Technology Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement with Jining Port and Shipping Development Co., Ltd. for the green and intelligent demonstration route of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.

Zeng Yuqun, Chairman and CEO of CATL, stated that CATL is not limited to battery manufacturing. It hopes to leverage its advantages in products and technologies, combined with its own carbon reduction experience, to build an efficient, clean, and safe zero-carbon ecological industry. In the future, more innovative new energy businesses are expected to land in Shandong, contributing to the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of Shandong's new energy industry.

In the future, CATL will also further explore with Shandong the creation of provincial demonstration zones such as a battery swapping network for NEVs, a low-altitude economy around the Bohai Sea, and the electrification of inland and coastal shipping. It will accelerate cooperation in promoting the construction of the Dongying Zero Carbon Industrial Park and create more benchmark applications of zero-carbon scenarios in Shandong.
