Recently, China Petroleum Baoshi Pipe Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Baoshi Pipe Industry") successfully trial-produced its first titanium alloy coiled tubing through independent R&D, filling the product gap in this field for China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). This marks a significant technological breakthrough for Baoshi Pipe Industry in the high-end energy tubing sector, providing core equipment for the development of oil and gas resources in harsh environments such as deep sea, ultra-deep wells, and highly corrosive conditions.

It is reported that the density of titanium alloy coiled tubing is only 57% of that of steel, featuring high strength, lightweight, high corrosion resistance, and high fatigue resistance. Compared with carbon steel coiled tubing of the same steel grade, it can significantly increase the depth of the tubing string, meeting various operational needs in fields such as drilling and completion, oil and gas production, and oil and gas gathering and transportation during oil and gas extraction.

To overcome the technical challenges in manufacturing titanium alloy coiled tubing, Baoshi Pipe Industry formed a project team, developed a detailed implementation plan, and, through repeated tests and multiple rounds of trial production, optimized the selection of titanium alloy raw materials, identified suitable welding materials, and upgraded key equipment for full-process gas protection, forming, and welding.

"We have broken through key technologies such as springback control in cold bending of titanium alloy, high-precision, high-energy-density, and efficient continuous laser welding, and online gas-protected annealing treatment. We have successfully trial-produced the company's first reel of titanium alloy coiled tubing, which fully meets performance requirements," said Zhao Kun, the chief expert of Baoshi Pipe Industry. He introduced that this trial production not only significantly improved the production efficiency of titanium alloy coiled tubing but also avoided issues such as reduced corrosion resistance caused by oxygen and hydrogen absorption in the weld seam during the welding process of titanium alloy, providing new solutions for the development of oil and gas resources in China's onshore deep wells exceeding 10,000 meters, harsh corrosive operating environments, and offshore fields.
