Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 16, 2025, Changan Automobile celebrated the launch of its Rayong plant in Thailand alongside a ceremony commemorating its global cumulative production milestone of 28.59 million vehicles.

Less than two years after breaking ground on November 8, 2023, the Rayong plant is now officially in operation. Built with a total investment of approximately THB 10 billion, the plant currently has an annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles, with plans to scale up to 200,000 units in the future.

Guided by a "green and intelligent" design philosophy, the factory incorporates advanced technologies such as photovoltaic power generation, rainwater harvesting, recycled airflow systems, virtual simulation, and a digital operating platform. These innovations contribute to reduced energy consumption per vehicle and improved manufacturing efficiency. According to the company, models under the Changan, DEEPAL, and AVATR brands will all be produced at the Rayong facility in the future.

As Changan Automobile's first complete vehicle manufacturing base outside China, the Rayong plant embodies the company's 41 years of vehicle-making experience, blending systematic manufacturing practices with localized operations. The facility sets a replicable global standard for Changan Automobile's future international factories and has also served as a training ground for cultivating international talent.

Looking ahead, Changan Automobile plans to introduce 12 new energy vehicle models to Southeast Asia over the next three years. The company will also establish a parts warehouse in Rayong to serve as a global hub for right-hand-drive spare parts. Additionally, it will enhance its Thai digital service platform with AI capabilities, providing features such as intelligent vehicle control, smart maintenance, battery monitoring, and remote diagnostics.

Southeast Asia plays a pivotal role in Changan Automobile's global strategy. In recent years, the automaker has ramped up its localized operations across the region. In the Thai market alone, the automaker has already launched seven new vehicle models, including the DEEPAL S07 and AVATR 11.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
