On May 15, 2025, BYD officially announced the establishment of its European headquarters in Budapest, Hungary.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 15, 2025, BYD officially announced the establishment of its European headquarters in Budapest, Hungary.

Speaking at the event, BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu said, "The launch of our European headquarters marks a deep integration between BYD and Hungary's local automotive industry. This is not only a significant milestone in BYD's global expansion but also a testament to the vast potential of China-Hungary cooperation, reinforcing our long-term commitment to the European market."

Located in Budapest's 11th district near the Danube River, the new headquarters is strategically positioned at the heart of the city's transport and industrial hubs. It will serve three key functions: overseeing sales and after-sales operations, managing vehicle certification and testing, and supporting model localization and functional development. The site is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs.

As for R&D, the headquarters will initially focus on intelligent driving assistance and next-generation vehicle electrification technologies. In the future, BYD plans to partner with at least three Hungarian universities on joint research initiatives and collaborate with local suppliers and enterprises to upgrade the new energy vehicle (NEV) value chain.

Hungary has been a pivotal partner for BYD since 2016, when the company established its electric bus plant in Komárom. Building on Hungary's robust automotive industry—the second-largest EV manufacturing base globally—BYD deepened its commitment in late 2023 by announcing its first European new energy passenger car production facility in the country. The launch of the European headquarters not only strengthens BYD's localization of products and services and enhances its brand presence, but also stands as a model of pragmatic China-Europe cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
