TOP 15 Domestic Power Battery Installations from January to April: CATL Experiences Continuous Decline, One Company Drops Out of Top 10

From the perspective of battery installations, in April, China's power battery installations declined MoM, as did LFP battery installations. The market share of ternary batteries continued to shrink. Top-tier enterprises maintained their leading positions, while second- and third-tier enterprises sought breakthroughs. The industry chain is undergoing profound adjustments.

Recently, the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance released monthly battery installation data. In April, China's power battery installations reached 54.1 GWh, down 4.3% MoM and up 52.8% YoY. Among them, ternary battery installations were 9.3 GWh, accounting for 17.2% of total installations, down 7.0% MoM and down 6.3% YoY. LFP battery installations were 44.8 GWh, accounting for 82.8% of total installations, down 3.8% MoM and up 75.9% YoY.

From January to April, China's cumulative power battery installations reached 184.3 GWh, up 52.8% YoY. Among them, cumulative ternary battery installations were 34.3 GWh, accounting for 18.6% of total installations, down 15.9% YoY. Cumulative LFP battery installations were 150.0 GWh, accounting for 81.4% of total installations, up 88.0% YoY.

From the perspective of battery installation data,in April, China's power battery installations declined MoM, LFP battery installations also declined, the share of ternary batteries continued to shrink, the leading positions of top-tier enterprises remained stable, second- and third-tier enterprises sought breakthroughs, and the industry chain was undergoing profound adjustments.

In April, a total of 40 power battery enterprises achieved battery installations in China's NEV market, the same number as the same period last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery enterprises had battery installations of 39.1 GWh, 44.3 GWh, and 50.6 GWh, respectively, accounting for 72.3%, 81.8%, and 93.5% of total installations. The share of the top 10 decreased by 3.0 percentage points YoY.

From January to April, a total of 48 power battery enterprises achieved battery installations in China's NEV market, an increase of 1 from last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery enterprises had battery installations of 134.5 GWh, 151.7 GWh, and 172.0 GWh, respectively, accounting for 73.0%, 82.3%, and 93.3% of total installations.

From the perspective of the domestic power battery TOP 15 rankings, compared to March, in April, the leading positions of first-tier companies CATL and BYD remained stable, while competition among second- and third-tier enterprises remained fierce. Sunwoda rose from 7th to 6th place; REPT Battero rose from 9th to 7th place; Zenergy rose from 10th to 8th place; SVOLT Energy Technology dropped from 6th to 9th place; Jidian New Energy rose from 11th to 10th place; LG Energy Solution dropped out of the top 10, falling to 11th place; Yingpai Battery and DFD swapped rankings, with DFD ranking 12th and Yingpai Battery ranking 13th; CORNEX New Energy rose to 14th place, Yuanhang Jinli remained at 15th place, and Yaoning New Energy dropped out of the TOP 15.

From the perspective of market share, compared to March, in April, among CALB, BYD, Gotion High-tech, Zenergy, REPT Battero, CORNEX New Energy, Sunwoda, Yuanhang Jinli, DFD, and Jidian New Energy, CALB experienced the highest growth rate.

Compared to Q1, from January to April, the rankings of the top 8 enterprises in terms of power battery installations in China remained unchanged. However, LG Energy Solution and Zenergy swapped positions, with Zenergy ranking 9th and LG Energy Solution dropping out of the top 10 to 11th place, while Jidian New Energy maintained its 10th position. Inpact Battery, DFD, and CORNEX New Energy remained in 12th, 13th, and 14th places, respectively, and Yuanhang Jinli replaced Yaoning New Energy to rise to 15th place.

From the perspective of market share, CATL, CALB, Sunwoda, LG Energy Solution, EVE, and SVOLT Energy Technology saw a YoY decline in their market shares, with CATL experiencing the most significant drop.

In terms of power battery installations by car model,in April, battery installations for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 82.9%, up 58.4% YoY; installations for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) accounted for 17.0%, up 30.6% YoY; and installations for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) accounted for 0.03%, down 61.5% YoY on a cumulative basis. Among them, trucks and special-purpose vehicles showed relatively rapid growth.

From January to April, battery installations for BEVs accounted for 81.9%, up 60.6% YoY on a cumulative basis; installations for PHEVs accounted for 18.1%, up 25.2% YoY on a cumulative basis; and installations for FCVs accounted for 0.05%, up 32.5% YoY on a cumulative basis. Among them, trucks and special-purpose vehicles showed relatively rapid growth.

In terms of the average battery capacity installed per vehicle by car model,in April, the average battery capacity installed per NEV in China was 52.9 kWh, up 4.3% MoM. The average battery capacities installed per BEV passenger car and PHEV passenger car were 52.8 kWh and 29.3 kWh, respectively, down 2.9% MoM and up 13.5% MoM, respectively.

From January to April, the average battery capacity installed per NEV in China was 50.7 kWh. The average battery capacities installed per passenger NEV, truck, bus, and special-purpose vehicle were 43.8 kWh, 172.7 kWh, 189.0 kWh, and 212.9 kWh, respectively.

In terms of the energy density distribution of battery systems for BEVs, in April, the production volumes of BEVs in China with system energy densities below 125 Wh/kg, 125 (inclusive)-140 Wh/kg, 140 (inclusive)-160 Wh/kg, and 160 Wh/kg and above were 6,000 units, 396,000 units, 222,000 units, and 26,000 units, respectively, accounting for 1.0%, 60.9%, 34.1%, and 4.0% of the total, respectively.

Additionally, according to the estimated demand data for key materials in power and other batteries released by the China Industrial Innovation Alliance for Power Battery of Automotive Industry, in April, China's demand for ternary cathode material for power and other batteries was 41,000 mt, and for LFP material was 224,000 mt; the demand for anode material was 137,000 mt; the demand for separator was 1.77 billion m²; the demand for electrolyte for ternary battery was 19,000 mt, and for electrolyte for LFP battery was 123,000 mt.

From January to April, China's demand for ternary cathode material for power and other batteries was 154,000 mt, and for LFP material was 845,000 mt; the demand for anode material was 515,000 mt; the demand for separator was 6.66 billion m²; the demand for electrolyte for ternary battery was 71,000 mt, and for electrolyte for LFP battery was 464,000 mt.

According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month. Based on preliminary January data, these producers achieved sales of 830,000 units in January. As most producers have already locked in their major sales figures, by applying the structural proportion from the previous month to the current month's data, the estimated wholesale sales of passenger NEVs nationwide in January were 900,000 units. According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
