Lane stated that although both sides have currently agreed to suspend the trade dispute, the scrap metal market still faces challenges. The Trump administration has indicated that if a broader agreement cannot be reached within three months, tariffs may rise again. This means that the imbalance in copper scrap inventory will persist and will take some time to alleviate. Under these circumstances, scrap metal dealers and processors must cooperate closely to ensure the transfer and shipment of materials. US scrap yards have had to sell metals at discounted prices, while Chinese processors are also struggling to purchase sufficient raw materials. The entire copper scrap market has been thrown into chaos due to the trade war, with both sides anxiously awaiting future developments. Lane emphasized that the most important thing now is to maintain communication and closely monitor the situation over the next 90 days. The temporary truce in this trade dispute has given both sides a respite, but their difficulties still persist, and they need to continue working hard to find solutions.
