Indonesia Plans to Phase Out Fuel Imports from Singapore Amid Price and Security Concerns

Published: May 14, 2025 15:00
Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced plans to gradually reduce and eventually halt fuel imports from Singapore, citing uncompetitive prices compared to those from the Middle East, despite Singapore’s proximity. Currently, 54–59% of Indonesia’s fuel imports come from Singapore, but the government is now building larger docks to accommodate bigger ships for more efficient fuel imports from alternative sources. Bahlil also mentioned geopolitical and geoeconomic factors as reasons for diversifying import sources, emphasizing the need for balance and energy security.
