BOCOM International: Mainland's NEV Market Thrives in April, Steady Growth and High NEV Exports Forecast for May

[BOCOM International: Mainland's new energy vehicle market shines in April, with steady growth expected in May] BOCOM International released a report indicating that the mainland's auto market performed well in April, with new energy vehicles (NEVs) standing out. Their growth rate outpaced the overall industry, with a penetration rate reaching 51.5%. Considering the mild intensity of new vehicle launches at the Shanghai Auto Show and the high base in May, the bank expects the mainland's auto market growth to remain relatively stable in May, with NEV exports also maintaining a high growth rate. The bank recommends paying attention to BYD Company Limited (01211.HK) for its intelligent driving and export capabilities, XPeng Motors (09868.HK) for the launch and delivery of its G7 and M03 MAX models, and Geely Auto (00175.HK) for the internal resource integration following the privatization of Zeekr. In terms of exports, although passenger vehicle exports have slowed down, NEV exports have outperformed peers. The bank believes that the weak performance of internal combustion engine vehicle exports may be influenced by the decline in sales in the Russian auto market and the decrease in the market share of domestic brands in Russia.

[SMM Energy Storage Battery Cell Market Weekly Review 9.3] Tight copper foil supply constrains September production schedules, energy storage battery cell prices remain firm
[SMM Analysis] Affected by tight copper foil supply and slower-than-expected capacity ramp-up for large-capacity battery cells, China and global energy storage battery cell production growth in September is expected to slow to 4.09% and 4.25% MoM, respectively, but this does not indicate weakening end-use demand. Supply-demand conditions for energy storage battery cells remain tight, with 314Ah battery cell prices holding steady. Shipments are expected to rise steadily going forward, with prices continuing their stable-to-higher trend.

CATL Chairman: China's NEV Sales Surpass 7.4M in H1, Emphasizes Precision in Battery Production
CATL Chairman Zeng Yuqun, in a video address to the 2026 World Power Battery Conference, said that in H1 this year, China's NEV sales exceeded 7.4 million units, with over 600 new models launched, averaging nearly three per day. Everyone is competing on speed, specifications, and price, and development cycles are getting shorter. He noted that power batteries require extremely high precision and have very low tolerance for error. In mass production, all small issues are magnified many times over, so every process and every parameter must be strictly controlled from the design stage, anomalies must be identified in advance, and there must be zero tolerance for quality problems.
