Chery launches overseas collaborative innovation center with NTU Singapore through Kaiyang Laboratory

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 12, Chery's Kaiyang Laboratory and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore ("NTU Singapore") signed a partnership agreement in Wuhu, Anhui Province, marking the establishment of the first overseas collaborative innovation center under Chery's global open source initiative.

The two parties will collaborate on R&D in key technologies for new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, including electrification, intelligent systems, low-carbon development, and industrial cluster formation, while also focusing on cross-border talent cultivation. Through its global open source initiative, Chery will share core equipment and technologies to foster a diverse innovation landscape and accelerate the green and smart transformation of China's automotive industry.

Kaiyang Laboratory is built on a "science-technology-industry" model to create an open innovation ecosystem. As part of the cooperation, the two sides have completed the handover of core hybrid vehicle components and unveiled the new Collaborative Innovation Center. Future R&D will focus on areas such as batteries, new materials, and intelligent technologies.

Under the global open source initiative, Chery is sharing core hybrid vehicle technology patents and interface protocols, establishing five global co-research centers, and donating key components. The program also includes million-yuan education awards and a dual-mentorship program between academia and industry, forming a comprehensive system that integrates technology sharing, joint talent development, and achievement transformation.

To date, Kaiyang Laboratory has partnered with 59 universities worldwide, including six members of China's C9 League. It is helping Chery shift from technology importer to global ecosystem exporter in the automotive industry.
