Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC Mobility, the strategic mobility service brand under SAIC Motor, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with autonomous driving technology company Momenta to jointly develop the world's first Robotaxi fleet based on mass-produced, pre-installed hardware, according to a press release SAIC Mobility issued on May 12.

The fleet will begin operations in Shanghai, offering autonomous ride-hailing services to local residents.

Under the partnership, Momenta will provide scalable, driverless autonomous driving technology, while SAIC Mobility will offer operational platform support for the Robotaxi fleet.

The two companies will collaborate closely to enable large-scale L4 Robotaxi operations, marking a major step toward the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. Momenta will supply a Robotaxi solution based on pre-installed mass production, leveraging the existing hardware architecture of SAIC Motor’s IM LS6 model. The use of production-grade hardware is expected to enhance system stability and accelerate scalable deployment.

Momenta's solution is further empowered by its proprietary Flywheel large model, which enables rapid adaptation across global cities by overcoming operational design domain (ODD) limitations. This positions the Robotaxi service for accelerated commercial deployment in multiple regions worldwide.

SAIC Mobility and Momenta have been co-developing a Robotaxi ecosystem in China since 2021, when they launched the SAIC Motor-backed L4 autonomous car operation platform, Xiangdao Robotaxi. Since then, the partners have established a mature Robotaxi operational network in cities including Shanghai and Suzhou.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
