From April 23 to May 2, ZF Group showcased
a range of technologies and products
at the Shanghai Auto Show.
Runyi Wang, Executive Vice President of ZF Group, President of China Region, and President of Asia-Pacific Operations, stated that ZF has long regarded China as a core strategic market, having established over 50 factories and 5 R&D centers in the country. The company has invested nearly 3.5 billion euros in the past five years alone, and built or expanded 10 factories while establishing one new R&D center in China over the past two years.
Adhering to the strategic philosophy of "In China, For China" and "In China, For Global," ZF has achieved localized R&D and mass production of globally advanced technologies in China, while also bringing Chinese innovations to global markets.
Furthermore, ZF is vigorously promoting the localized mass production of cutting-edge technologies in China and launching tailored solutions for the Chinese market. The new generation of powertrain and parts products recently entered mass production in China, securing orders exceeding 1 billion euros
from Chinese OEMs. The rear-wheel steering system (AKC), advanced driver-assistance system OnGuardMAX Plus, and TraXon 2 transmission have also commenced mass production in China.
ZF announced at the auto show that the planetary gear coaxial reducer developed by its Chinese team achieved mass production in the Chinese market for the first time in H1 this year . This product significantly improves efficiency while
saving half the space and weight , positioning ZF as a leading supplier in the coaxial reducer sector. ZF's Hangzhou e-drive plant will commence mass production of next-generation 800V motors
in June this year, which will be deployed in domestic and international customer vehicles.
Additionally, ZF's Shenyang e-drive plant will start mass production of next-generation electric drive systems in Q3 this year for international luxury automotive electric drive platforms. To align with China's rapid development of new energy hybrid vehicles, ZF has introduced the fourth-generation hybrid transmission
to China, with planned mass production in 2026
. Initial orders have already been secured. At this auto show, ZF Chassis 2.0 made its global debut. In terms of lateral control, the latest ZF steer-by-wire system equipped for the NIO ET9 has entered mass production in the first quarter of this year. In terms of longitudinal control, ZF announced that it has secured orders for its dry electro-mechanical brake (EMB) system from a leading global automaker, with nearly 5 million vehicles to be equipped with this system.
ZF's fully active suspension technology, sMOTION®, has entered mass production. In addition to being applied in new Porsche car models, it has also gained recognition from leading local automotive brands in China and will enter mass production at ZF's China plant starting next year.
ZF also showcased its latest R&D electric drive range extender system, which enables a single electric drive system to switch between range extension and drive modes. It is set to be integrated into mainstream Chinese car models and is planned to enter production in the first half of next year.
ZF also unveiled its latest customizable advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) at the auto show. This system integrates AI large models with advanced algorithms, eliminating the need for high-cost LiDAR and high-computing platforms. Based on a modular architecture design, it reduces hardware costs and system power consumption, and can be adapted to different automotive platforms.
Meanwhile, ZF is also actively building partnerships. In 2024, it has collaborated with Foton Motor and Geely Remote New Energy Commercial Vehicle, among others, to expand cooperation in multiple areas. Recently, ZF also announced the establishment of a joint venture with its partners in Guangzhou to produce passive safety electronics. The launch of this project also marks a new model for ZF's local project investments.
