[SMM Titanium News] On April 3, 2025, Pangang Group announced that its 35,000-mt titanium sponge capacity expansion project had achieved full production for six consecutive months, with all technical and economic indicators fully meeting the standards. This marked a breakthrough in Pangang's total titanium sponge production capacity exceeding 60,000 mt/year, accounting for 20% of China's total production capacity. The project adopted the molten salt chlorination process with proprietary intellectual property rights, addressing technological bottlenecks such as vanadium removal from mineral oil. The production of ultra-soft titanium and small-particle titanium exceeded target values by 19% and 2.5%, respectively, while manufacturing costs decreased by 0.9%. This breakthrough enabled China to possess the world's largest single-unit titanium sponge production site for the first time, signaling a significant enhancement in China's self-sufficiency and control over the titanium industry chain.
