【European Automakers to Avoid CO2 Emission Fines This Year】Major EU institutions have agreed to grant European automakers an additional two years to comply with emission reduction targets. Consequently, European automakers will avoid potential fines amounting to billions of euros for failing to meet the 2025 emission targets. Members of the European Parliament have supported an amendment that allows manufacturers who fail to meet their emission reduction obligations in 2025 to reduce emissions more rapidly over the next two years to make up for the shortfall. This will provide relief to the automotive industry. Due to a significant decline in EV sales last year, the industry has found it more challenging to implement these regulations and has been lobbying for changes. However, the relaxation of short-term targets has also raised questions about the feasibility of the EU's future targets, most notably the zero-emission obligation for new cars by 2035.
