[SMM Daily Review: Spot Lithium Carbonate Prices Continue to Plummet on May 8]
The SMM index price for battery-grade lithium carbonate was 65,346 yuan/mt, down 1,415 yuan/mt from the previous working day. Battery-grade lithium carbonate was priced at 63,500-67,000 yuan/mt, with an average price of 65,250 yuan/mt, down 1,400 yuan/mt from the previous working day. Industrial-grade lithium carbonate was priced at 63,100-64,100 yuan/mt, with an average price of 63,600 yuan/mt, down 1,400 yuan/mt from the previous working day. The price center of spot lithium carbonate transaction prices continued to move significantly lower. With the proportion of customer-supplied lithium carbonate further increasing at leading battery cell manufacturers, the purchase willingness of downstream material plants remained weak. Although some upstream lithium chemical plants have already cut production or halted operations due to cost pressure, considering that the accumulated inventory level in the market remains high, the sentiment of significant surplus continues to intensify, and spot lithium carbonate prices continue to decline.
