Top 10 Global Power Battery Installations in Q1: Half Experience Market Share Decline, Three Rise in Rankings

Recently, South Korean research institute SNE Research released the latest data on global power battery installations for Q1 2025. The data shows that in Q1 2025, global power battery installations reached 221.8 GWh, up 38.8% YoY.

Market share-wise, compared to Q1 2024, among the top 10 global power battery installation companies in Q1 2025, BYD, Gotion High-tech, SVOLT Energy Technology, CATL, and EVE achieved growth; while SK On, CALB, Panasonic, Samsung SDI, and LGES experienced varying degrees of decline.

Ranking-wise, compared to Q1 2024, the global power battery market in Q1 2025 remained in a growth phase, but intensified competition led to significant differentiation among producers. Top-tier enterprises continued to expand their market share by leveraging scale and technological advantages. The competitive landscape among the top 3 companies remained stable, with CATL, BYD, and LGES maintaining their rankings.

The rankings of the second and third tiers saw significant changes. Specifically, SK On rose from 6th to 4th place; CALB climbed from 7th to 5th place; Gotion High-tech advanced from 9th to 6th place; Samsung SDI slipped from 5th to 7th place; Panasonic fell from 4th to 8th place; EVE dropped from 8th to 9th place; and SVOLT Energy Technology remained in 10th place.

In terms of YoY changes in battery installations, among the top 10 companies, eight battery companies, excluding Samsung SDI and Panasonic, achieved positive growth in Q1 2025.

Regarding Chinese companies, in Q1 2025, Chinese enterprises still held 6 out of the 10 spots among the top companies, namely CATL, BYD, CALB, Gotion High-tech, EVE, and SVOLT Energy Technology. The total installations of these six companies reached 149.5 GWh, accounting for a 67.5% market share. Among them, CATL and BYD together accounted for a 55% market share, highlighting the dominant position of Chinese enterprises in the power battery sector.

Specifically, CATL retained its global top position with 84.9 GWh of installations, up 40.2% YoY, and a market share of 38.3%, further solidifying its leading position.

BYD closely followed, ranking second globally with 37 GWh of installations, up 62% YoY, and a market share of 16.7%, making it the company with the highest increase in market share among the top 10 companies.

CALB ranked 5th globally with 8.6 GWh of installations, up 31.5% YoY, and a market share of 3.9%.

Gotion High-tech ranked 6th globally with 7.7 GWh of installations, up 86.6% YoY, and a market share of 3.5%.

EVE ranked 9th globally, with battery installations reaching 5.7 GWh, up 59.6% YoY, and a market share of 2.6%.

SVOLT Energy Technology ranked 10th globally, with battery installations reaching 5.6 GWh, up 100.2% YoY, the highest growth rate among the TOP 10 companies and the only company to achieve a triple-digit YoY growth, with a market share of 2.5%.

Regarding Korean companies,in Q1 2025, both LGES and SK On saw an increase in battery installations, while Samsung SDI experienced a YoY decline. The total battery installations of the three companies reached 41.6 GWh, with a market share of 18.7%.

Among them, LGES maintained its 3rd position globally, with battery installations of 23.8 GWh, up 15.1% YoY, and a market share of 10.7%.

SK On ranked 4th, with battery installations of 10.5 GWh, up 35.6% YoY, and a market share of 4.7%.

Samsung SDI ranked 7th, with battery installations of 7.3 GWh, down 17.2% YoY, and a market share of 3.3%.

Regarding Japanese companies,Panasonic's power batteries are mainly supplied to Tesla, ranking 8th in terms of battery installations, with 7.2 GWh, down 6.3% YoY, and a market share of 3.3%, indicating a significant decline in competitiveness.

It is worth mentioning that other brands outside the TOP 10 collectively made efforts to expand the market, with battery installations increasing from 14.4 GWh in Q1 2024 to 23.5 GWh in Q1 2025, up 63.5% YoY, and their market share increasing from 9.0% to 10.6%.

According to the latest data released by the China Industrial Innovation Alliance for the Automotive Power Battery Industry, in Q1, China's cumulative power battery installations reached 130.2 GWh, up 52.8% YoY. A total of 46 power battery enterprises in China's NEV market achieved battery installations, an increase of 4 companies YoY. The battery installations of the TOP 3, TOP 5, and TOP 10 enterprises were 95.4 GWh, 107.4 GWh, and 121.7 GWh, respectively, accounting for 73.3%, 82.5%, and 93.5% of the total installations. The TOP 3 companies were CATL, BYD, and CALB. In terms of market share, BYD achieved the highest growth rate in Q1.

According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
